I wonder what is going on. Was it the one with all the unemployment info in it?

I got laid off yesterday...duh
...
Strange discussion with them just yesterday
I sent them a resume last week.  Have not taken any test or anything.  Recruiter called, wanted to know if there was anyway I could possibly start this week?  Possibly by Thursday?  Seemed a little weird.  She was nice and all, but I felt it was a little strange that they didn't want to do any testing, check references, or anything.
Nope to your answer, strange no reply to email
Had nothing to do with anything except being called management on here. Seems like it is either being called management which I am not, inept which I am not, so on and so on but really did not expect anyone to answer the email, people just like to throw out nonsense.
I got an email yesterday that there was plenty of sm
work to go around, that volumes were up. Maybe you should ask for some more work. As far as office help goes, it doesn't matter to me how many are there because I never have the need to call the office.
I didn't see any email, yesterday?
x
Missed yesterday's conversation here. Could someone email the jist of it? Tx. nm

LOL! Is IS a very strange company run by very strange people. I have had that
very thought before and it made me laugh to see you refer to it as strange, too. Thank goodness it's not just me!

Good luck Candy!
*Strange*; nothign strange about it.

Better yet, go get laid!!!
:{
Soon to be laid off...
Is there a way to find out which companies keep ALL their work within the United States?
laid off sm

Well I am another statistic.  I started at Milner Voice and Data back in June.  Things started getting very slow about 4-6 weeks ago.  I asked at least a dozen times what was going on and got the answer nothing it was just slow.  I even turned down another job because they told me it was going to be ok and this was normal.

Monday morning I talked to my supervisor and she said nothing.  Molnday afternoon I went to get into the system and couldn't get in.  Went and checked the mail before I called them and got a lay off notice in the mail!  What a way to notify someone especially when I had been asking for weeks.

Excuse was that the bigggest account (not mine) lost 60% of their volume when the hospital decided to not dictate the ERs because of budget cut backs.  Because of that, other MTs taking my work.  Apparently 9 of us were laid off.

I understand cut backs if there is no work, but I DO NOT understand lying when I asked and asked and asked some more.  Because of all this, the place that offered me a job, hired someone so Milner cost me a job.

O well, I have an interview tomorrow at 2 with another company.  We will see! Really bad way for company to treat MTs.   Stay away from this company and TB!

Proscript-Laid off sm

Laid off as a result of not enough work..still waiting to hear from them..

Yep, I got the laid off today too
I've been with Cymed forever too. I did double the required amount of lines to edit, typed when needed and worked the shifts nobody else wanted.  No one is safe with this company.  SPi took a #3 company and have run it in the gound!!  I am hoping they will go belly up before they can say what the...
They laid off all US MT & QA employees.
Period. And they sent all work to India. You simply are one of a few ICs they subcontract to do the few reports India can't get to in time. You are not an employee of Cbay as they don't have any US MT employees anymore.... I do find it odd how defensive you are about it though.
Yeah, I got laid off by them when they sent
all the work to India, save for a few US IC radiology people for stats... I absolutely wouldn't advise working for them. They now own Medquist and are doing the same thing to them.
I got in it about 1970 and was laid off
end of 2007. Per GP's post below, we were well thought of at one time, the administrative secretary would come in occasionally and ask a question regarding English rules and such. Then, somehow, it all changed and we began to be regarded as useless workhorses, nags if you will, and you'd better not look up or stop typing for a moment or someone would say something. I would advise it against it just for what it does physically over time to your hands, arms, shoulders and neck and back. Great way to get out of shape especially if you work 8+ hours a day. It does keep your fingers limber, but that's about all. I can't think of any other profession where you are expected not only to know so much, but keep learning, and steadily getting underpaid. Might as well try to be a Bell telephone operator, going the same way as they did and telegraphers and pony express riders.
If an employee, you'd be better off being laid off.
If they would just straight up lay you off, you could collect unemployment, which in some cases would be more than the money made sitting in front of the computer for 10-12 hours a day.

And, in a bit of a double whammy, the lower the rate you'll get on unemployment should the time ever come that you can actually file, as most states base unemployment is determined on wages over the last five quarters, so the longer you stick it out the harder you stick it to yourself when they start calculating an unemployment wage.

I know someone who worked 8 days in early June 2008 (his previous work was early spring 2007). He has been collecting unemployment since August 2008 in the amount of $175/week. His home is paid for, he can't drive, and with some investments that pay monthly annuities, he is able to live better than a lot of people, without the stress that MTs endure wondering how they'll make their line count.
I got laid off too,. same scenario. sm
There were several of us that got the ax with no warning.
I did 2 weeks ago. My gal was very laid back
and I really enjoyed talking to her.  There was a ton of questions about how experienced in certain areas, you had to rate yourself, and also there was a verbal test, I think 10 questions, thinks like what is hypocalcemia, what MRSA stood for, things like that.  Very easy, had a job offer about 3 hours later.
Is this the company that laid off a bunch of
MTs at Christmas and sent the work to India?
Cbay has laid off all of their US MTs and Editors
and sent everything to India. They bought up a lot of smaller US companies and slowly transitioned EVERYTHING to India.  What more is there to say about them?  Bad news.
they did lay off- didnt outsource but laid off a lot
They bought another contract and then lost it so had new employees and not enough work to go around
Anybody here been laid off by SmartMed recently?

SmartMed employees received an email about 3 weeks ago that there would be layoffs and/or cutting back on benefits, but no subsequent followup email, so we don't know if the layoffs have occurred already, or if we should still be waiting for the other shoe to drop.  It's a wonder we don't all have bleeding ulcers (no matter what company we work for).  There just doesn't seem to be any respect for our skills or the difficulty of the job.  We are just numbers on a spreadsheet.

I know this won't be a popular sentiment, but as far as I'm concerned things starting going to hell in a handbasket for all of us with the advent of the Internet.  When you had to go in and work at a facility, be it a hospital or an MT company, they knew who you were.  They had to see you everyday and work with you.  You really were a part of a (visible) team.  I truly believe that made it more difficult to just be let go without a backward glance.

Aren't they the company that laid off a bunch of MTs and
sent work to India a few months ago.
We were getting laid-off, wages cut, losing bennies
Like for the last 5-7 years.
I am a Heartland employee that got laid off and I won't support AAMT in any way. nm
x
I was the *half full* type until my company laid me off.
They said identical things as this DRC acquisition. They told us to just keep working as usual and do your best. Three months later (after the Indians had proper training on our accounts), they laid off the whole US MT force. The particular account I was on DID NOT want their dictations outsourced overseas but this happened anyway until this account caught wind and eventually left. These things do happen out there, and all of these people have the right to feel skeptical. These Indian company takeovers happen more often than not. We MTs need to be less naive about things and more weary to protect our occupation.
Let me sum it up for you, 80% of work is done in India, they just laid off a bunch of American

QA people, some of which were hired only a few months before they were fired, and they just now fired a lot of their upper management.  Something is in the wind at Focus and it smells like crap!  Don't work there.  If you do decide to ignore the warnings, don't believe anything they tell you!  They lie to you right up until they call and fire you.

I thought there were posts a few months ago saying they laid off 50-some people. nm

Haven't had enough java this morning...should be "I got laid off today too" and "ground&
Bad day...please forgive me :)
Strange

That's strange, I received an e-mail from someone from this board about scoping, thought it was you .  And, I replied to that person, who knows who I talked to (and if she received it LOL).

How strange

Can you tell me who contacted you?  I just thought it was strange that they sent me a contract without having me test first.

That is strange!
Where do you work? Are you employee, statutory or IC?
Strange
That does seem very strange. I'll have to poke around. I don't really even know of any other MT boards!
That is strange because they were
Maybe they are overstaffed....
What do you mean? Seems like strange
xx
Something strange is going on!
I just signed on this morning and there was nothing to do. I e-mailed the CEO and it will be interesting. I am almost positive that the account I have been working on has been gone, but why have they not told me? Are they embarrassed? The only e-mail I got this week was that work is very slow and that they hope to be getting back up to speed. I was not told that I was let go, fired, etc. You would think a company would at least tell their MTs if their account was taken away. I've been sitting here for 8 days with absolutely nothing to do. Very strange.......
Something strange going on with this
I was contacted by a woman who seemed knowledgeable about the cardiology accounts - I told her I was very interested. She wanted me to email my bank account information for direct deposit without any documents i needed to sign. I told her I was uncomfortable doing that with just her email address and the phone # I had did not even state her name, just the phone number. I told her I would email her to see if she received my email (not my personal information), she did not email me back. I called the # she gave me and left a message to email me and never heard back from her. She had told me my resume was forwarded from Cardioscribe. I emailed Cardioscribe to ask about this person and have not heard back from them. This is really scary.
It is strange. I know when I run out SM
on a weekend or at night I can call the help desk and get another account to work on.  The last time I truly ran out of work was Christmas last year.
That's strange because I
didn't need anything special for the platform.  You're talking about apex right?  I think it's just online and connected to their server in there office.  It doesn't have anything to do with using Word.
It IS strange. sm

If the person supposedly got paid everything they were owed before, how did they manage to be owed another $5000 in a month?  If one was supposedly owed $12,000 from this MTSO and they got their money, why would they still work for this MTSO?

Yes, very strange
About a month ago, I sent in my resume and was set up for their testing.  I tested for them and got a call.  They told me I did well on their acute care test and they just wanted me to test on their clinic test.  Did that.  Didn't hear anything and I sent two e-mail letters letting them know I completed their testing, which was about 2 weeks ago and haven't heard anything from them since!
Very strange, that's where I'm looking.
Nevertheless, there's no need for dark side to be so mean.

Lots of nasty on the board today, must have been a bad Monday.
Strange
They not only require calendars from us as to what days we will work but also that they be 60 days in advance. You can imagine what this does to any social and/or family life. I did not mind that as long as I could earn a living, but the last four months have been pitiful. What I want to know is where did the work go? Are we just supposed to keep checking every hour for 12-20 hours a day? This isn't working for me at all.
very strange
that you can't use any of your editing tools on the VR reports. The company I work for encouraged expanders, etc. They want you to edit these reports as quick as you can to keep TAT. The more you produce, the more money they make.

I know the pay is less, but you will be able to produce more lines than with straight typing. Maybe not to starting off, but you will after you get use to it.

I don't VR is going anywhere soon. MTSOs will do whatever is needed to get accounts.

Here's my strange experience
I had a recruiter from a company (initials PS) tell me on a second interview that she wasn't going to hire me because I asked too many questions. Same recruiter swore that this company didn't offshore. I ended up getting the job but wish I would have paid attention to the red flags and run the other way.
I think it sounds strange but it is a way to
No telling how far I will go. I know that Florence has been pushing this and she wants me to work with her which I am honored to do. I really hate to say this here but it does look like I am going to be replacing one QA and there are two more. I feel a little uncomfortable but at least I will have a long happy career in QA at OSI. I am very greatful for that.
How strange. I just got through posting
and they called!LOL! They told me they would be calling me back at the end of the week. Wish I could wait that long. Oh well.
That is pretty strange...

that with your years of experience Axo offered you 7 cents!!  I have 10 years total MT experience and they offered me 9.5 to start and said after 30 days they would review and possibly bump it up to 10...

That is the thing that really irks me about this transcription business.  There really isn't any standard as far as pay goes and it seems you just have to get lucky to get a good line rate....I've had other places offer me anywhere from 6 cents up.  No way I am working for 6 cents...

They have a very strange pay scale and no one
can quite figure it out.  Very hard to get lines, unable to make any money.  Lots of turnover.  They are also currently training women in Trinidad to be MTs so it is only a matter of time before the jobs follow.
Not strange... using keystrokes... sm

I work for a company who computes pay by Keystrokes (not the company Keystrokes, that's different).  For example, the average range when I started working there was about 0.0014 - 0.0016 per keystroke.  Now, this is easier than it sounds... It's based on a 65-character line, just like most places - counting spaces, etc.  If you multiply 0.0014 x 65 - that equals about 9.1 cents a line, which isn't shabby pay.  If you do 65,000 keystrokes that day, that's 1000 lines (65,000 keystrokes divided by 65 is 1000)  that's $91 dollars a day.  If your daily quota is reasonable, you could be making some nice money.  Hope this helps.

So you take what you were offered, and, depending on quotas for keystrokes during the pay period
